Kanchi Kamakoti Math was founded by Adi Shankara and is located in the city of Kancheepuram , Tamil Nadu. The Kanchi Math was founded in the spirit of a monastic institution for Hindus. Kancheepuram Math is one of the Pancha-Bhutasthalas. According to archaeological evidence, who actually built this Math is now 2500 years ago. This is proved by the inscriptional evidence on the walls of this Math. Some historians claim that Kancheepuram predates the Math by more than three decades but there is strong evidence to support this claim. Initially the Math was in a scandal. But it was moved to Kanchipuram in the 18th century when Hyder Ali 's army marched through the region.
